How do I apply magnesium lotion?
Magnesium lotion can be applied externally anywhere on the body. Here are some suggestions:
For difficulty with sleeping, I recommend applying it to the bottoms of your feet before bed.
For muscle pain or tension, apply it directly to the area of concern.
For headaches or migraines, apply it to the back of your neck or to your temples in the case of a tension headache.
For anxiety or stress, apply it to your chest or pulse points.
Start by taking a small amount and rub it into your skin. Gradually increase the amount, working up to 1/2 - 1 teaspoon per day, depending on your need.
It will take about 20 to 30 minutes to be absorbed, so don't put the lotion anywhere that you will be washing within half an hour.
Note - You should avoid applying the lotion to freshly shaven skin or to any area of sensitivity or irritation. Avoid contact with eyes.

Start by spraying 2 to 5 sprays directly onto your skin and rub it in. Gradually increase the amount, working up to 10-20 sprays per day (approximately 1/4 to 1/2 tsp.), depending on your need.

Topical magnesium absorbs into the body quickly without having to pass through the digestive system, where many nutrients are poorly absorbed. Therefore, you may find that you need less topical magnesium than what you would need in an oral magnesium supplement.
We recommend working up to about 1 teaspoon of magnesium lotion per day, although that may vary according to your need. There is approximately 230 mg of elemental magnesium in each teaspoon of our magnesium lotion.
Note: At one teaspoon per day, each jar should last about 24 days.
When using magnesium oil, we recommend working up to about 10-20 sprays per day. Again, that may vary according to your need. Ten sprays (~1/4 tsp.) contains about 111 mg of elemental magnesium, while twenty sprays (~1/2 tsp.) contains about 222 mg of elemental magnesium.
Note: At 10 sprays per day, each bottle should last about 96 days. At 20 sprays per day, each bottle should last about 48 days.
Which is better - magnesium lotion or magnesium oil?
Both options are a great way to deliver essential magnesium to your body.
Magnesium oil typically absorbs faster than magnesium lotion. There is also more elemental magnesium in each bottle of oil than in each jar of lotion, so there is a cost benefit, as well. However, magnesium oil can sometimes irritate the skin.
Magnesium lotion provides the same great benefit of topical magnesium, but with a silky, smooth texture, which moisturizes the skin. Those with skin sensitivities will likely enjoy the lotion better.
Why is my magnesium lotion separating?
The reason that your magnesium lotion may begin to separate is primarily due to the insolubility of the oils and the water contained in the lotion. While beeswax acts as a natural emulsifier, it does not do so perfectly.
If this happens to your magnesium lotion, there is no need to worry. The lotion will still work well to provide your body with elemental magnesium. To apply, simply take a small amount of the lotion along with a small amount of the separated liquid, and put it in the palm of your hand as you swirl it together with your finger. Then, rub onto your skin as normal.
If you do not like the texture, you can reheat the lotion in a double boiler. Then, let it cool to room temperature, and blend it together with a stick blender.
How long will my magnesium lotion/oil last?
Our topical magnesium products have a shelf life of about 12 months. Check the bottled date on the label to determine the useful life of your product.
My magnesium lotion melted. What do I do?
Magnesium lotion is heat sensitive and should be kept in a cool location to keep it from melting.
If your lotion has melted, there is no need for concern. The quality of the lotion is not affected. Simply shake the jar and place it in the freezer for 30-45 minutes. Whip the lotion with a fork and store in a cool location, as normal.
